Hello and welcome to ericrolson.com, a portfolio website for producer, editor and correspondent Eric R. Olson. My specialty is science and related topics such as natural history and the environment.

I currently work as an audio-video editor for Nature and Scientific American. This position is one of many hats. One day I might shoot, script and edit a video. The next day I might read journal articles, interview scientists and voice a podcast. Whatever type of media I'm shaping, I bring my passion for science and the ability to tell an interesting story through multiple media.

Previous to my career in media, I worked as a professional "lab rat" (no, not the kind that runs through mazes) and studied the gene mutations that predispose women to breast cancer. Important as that research is, I found the day-to-day work of high-throughput genotyping and DNA sequencing on the dry side.

Looking for more creativity and autonomy in my career I set out on a new path.This led me to a documentary filmmaking program, internships with industry-leading filmmakers and ultimately to the Science, Health and Environmental Reporting Program at New York University.
